Words have Power, Use them Wisely

So, someone shared about how it’s OK to say black. And I have had several friends try to tell me the same thing . However, I felt it necessary to clarify why I don’t like calling people colors in general: black is what you wear, not what you chose to be.

My mother was VERY CLEAR, Native Americans are not Indians. European Americans are not white, Asian Americans can be Indians, if THEY chose it (its population is so large it was the only nationality my mom acknowledged because of the racial erasure of Native Americans in dialogs). But, as colors come from dyed material in plants, it’s a choice.

If you are going to discuss something, accurately say it or don’t say it at all. Because we all bleed red and by God separating each other into groups just gives reason for bad people to justify treating each other badly for being different from one another.

This is a paraphrase of a discussion with me at ~9 year old because I was being mocked in school for being “different” for getting mad about having to correct someone about saying “Indian.”
